✨ This is how I prepare the wood before turning it into art
Woodworking is one of those things that seems simple from the outside, but it involves a lot of small steps, patience, and care. Today I want to show you how I prepare each piece before transforming it into something special.
From the first cut to the last sanding… this is where the magic begins.
🌿 The time to choose the right piece
Before turning on the machines or putting on my overalls, the first thing is to choose the wood.
Sometimes it comes into my hands because someone was going to throw it away, other times because I find a beautiful vein that inspires me. Each little piece has a story, and I love that.
I look at it, I touch it, and I decide what shape it could have. The creative process begins here without me even realizing it.
✂️ The cut: where the silhouette is born
Once I choose the piece, I go down to the warehouse and prepare the saw.
For me, this step has a special sound: the noise of the cutting, the shavings flying out, the absolute concentration.
I usually cut pieces about 2 cm thick , depending on what I'm going to create.
This step defines the foundation of everything that will come after.
🌬 Sanding: gentleness, patience and care
After the cut comes one of my favorite moments: sanding .
Sanding is almost therapeutic.
It's about polishing, smoothing, and taking care of the piece until there isn't a single rough edge left.
I use different grits of sandpaper depending on the shape and hardness of the wood. Sometimes it's quick, other times it takes time… but it's always worth it.
When I finish, the piece already begins to have a soul.
🔧 Preparing the canvas for the next phase
Once I have the wood ready, I can move on to the next steps: painting, laser engraving, stamping, or leaving the natural texture as is.
But that will be the subject of another article… 😉
Today I wanted to focus on this more "hidden" part of the process.
That which is not always visible, but which gives each piece its special touch.
💛 Thank you for being here
Every time I share my work, I feel like I'm leaving a little piece of myself behind.
If you enjoy watching these processes, I'd love for you to join me in the following chapters.
See you at the workshop.
